John Edward Thaw (January 3, 1942 – February 21, 2002) CBE, was a British actor who achieved his number 1 starring role in the military police television drama Redcap (1964 - 1966), & after appeared inside the range of television, stage and cinema roles.

Thaw come from either the working class background, with been innate around Longsight, Manchester to parents John Thaw and Dorothy Ablott. He exposed at a Royal Academy of Dramatic Art where he was a coeval of Tom Courtenay. In allowing RADa Thaw was awarded a locate the Liverpool Playhouse.
